CHRISTIAN RESPONSE: While there are principles of conduct that are honoring to God and helpful to us; for the Christian, these principles are compelled from within us once we're born again by the power of the Holy Spirit. To hear Rebekah speak of being compelled to a certain standard, while common amongst religious people, is not Christianity.

Notice her witness was that of a works-based religion. She was constantly striving to earn righteousness and good standing. She was "fearful" of dying "in Armageddon if we didn't pray enough" and had a constant fear that God was angry with her. In reality, by contrast, God is wanting to bring us into His family and be a good father to us. He has done all the work Himself thru His Son Jesus' death on the cross to reconcile us to Himself. Accepting that, now we live at peace with basking in His love striving to honor the One who loves us and gave Himself for us.

Galatians 1:3-4 - "Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father."

Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Titus 3:5-7 - "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

II Corinthains 5:14 - "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead."
